I am a professor of economics at Koç University, Istanbul.
I hold a BA degree from the University of Michigan (1998) and a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania (2004).
My research research spans the fields of economics, demography, and development. I work primarily in the areas of immigration and education. My latest research focuses on the well-being of Syrian refugees in the neighboring countries and their impact on the host country population’s socioeconomic outcomes. In my earlier research on immigration, I explored the causes of migration decisions and the consequences of migration on the source and host countries. My research on education focuses on the causal effects of education on various demographic and labor market outcomes. I am also interested in understanding the inequality in educational outcomes across various demographic groups.
I have publications in several leading international journals, including International Economic Review, Journal of International Economics, European Economic Review, Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Health Economics, Journal of Human Capital, Labour Economics, World Bank Economic Review, and Demography.
I have been an Associate Editor of the European Economic Review since January 2018.
My teaching experience includes several graduate and undergraduate courses in econometrics, microeconomics, applied econometrics, and labor economics. In addition, I have supervised several graduate students, including Ph.D. students.
